About
My journey of finding healthy baked goods began a decade ago when my child was diagnosed with autism. His moods could change dramatically based on the foods he ate and he eventually began having severe tantrums. Until I started reading labels, I had no idea how much sugar and preservatives were in everyday baked goods and it was exactly those two items that triggered his tantrums. We needed to find other options.
I'm fortunate to love cooking and baking and, as a former Food Network producer, have learned tricks from some of the best chefs in the industry. I realized I could make organic, low-sugar treats he could eat without being triggered. Navigating this new normal as a family wasn't easy. It was time-consuming and, at times, all consuming, but our lives became calmer and less dramatic with a huge reduction in daily meltdowns.
One place where the low-sugar treats have had the biggest impact for our family has been in the school lunchroom. In my mind, an apple was a great substitute for a cookie. But when Aiden began comparing his lunch to others he felt left out. In his mind, only a cookie was as good as a cookie.
The question becomes, how do we keep our children content while making sure they are eating foods that will nourish their bodies and not trigger negative responses? My Bakery Basket is the answer! We use only organic, natural ingredients with absolutely no preservatives. For less than what you'd pay at your local bakery, you will receive a box of delicious low-sugar baked goods you can feel good about putting in your kids lunchboxes.
